Nikkanni Shawishi is the Founder and Wellness Director of Dunuye – Fan Wellness Group. Immersed in African culture from childhood, as a young adult Nikkanni started a deep study of West African Dance in the cultural mecca of Leimert Park, located in Los Angeles, California, under the instruction of the late Nzingha Camara, one of the founding pioneers of the African dance and drum community in Los Angeles.
Currently, she is an ambassador of culture and healing arts in South Florida, offering guided healing arts to group homes, detox centers, retirement communities, memory care facilities, youth mentoring programs, summer camps, and corporate events. It is with dance, drum, mindful movements, affirmations, and health education that she continues to impact the lives of the community.
Nikkanni has intertwined healthcare and healing artistry for over 25 years. A Licensed Practical Nurse by profession, an African Dance Specialist, and a Vegan Chef by passion, her culinary journey began in Los Angeles and expanded to Atlanta before settling bi-coastally in South Florida. Since 1999, she has created intimate dining experiences, meal prep, pop-up events, and catering services that celebrate her ancestors’ southern roots and the communal traditions of Eastern and Western African cuisines.
Nikkanni Shawishi is the visionary behind Shawishi’s Belly Full African Cuisine, where she specializes in authentic African diasporic dining experiences. Her culinary expertise blends traditional flavors with a holistic approach, integrating exotic spices and healing herbs to nourish both body and soul. Beyond the kitchen, her work is deeply rooted in the health and wellness communities of South Florida, where she continues to create meaningful, culturally rich food experiences that celebrate heritage and well-being.
